International, national, regional and local performers will again grace the elegant and vintage performing hall, that doubled it’s audience attendance from year one to year two, and received the “Best Live Theater” award in the 2009 Kudos Readers Poll. “We’re excited about opening for our third season.” Co-director William Eaton remarked, “We know that there are still a lot of folks who have not yet attended an event at OTCA. Along with the performers, our volunteers and technical staff work hard to make every event a memorable and enjoyable experience. That experience begins with the wonderful ambience of this treasured historic building at 5th Street & Main. It’s always a delight to see people ‘light up’ when they encounter Old Town Center for the first time.” Here is a preview of some of the events coming in September and October. On Friday, September 17th have your heart strings broken when Rosie Flores, the “Girl of the Century” comes to Old Town Cottonwood. Since the mid-1980's Rosie Flores has been a key national figure on the alternative country music scene. Her music blends rockabilly, honky tonk, jazz and Western Swing along with traditional influences from her Tex-Mex heritage. Rosie will bring luminary Ruby James and her famous Austin Trio for this special opening event at OTCA. By the way next Tuesday (August 31st) is “Rosie Flores Day” in Austin, Texas, as declared by the Austin City Council in 2006. On Saturday, September 25th the music sensation that everyone has wanted to return to Cottonwood is the super group “Here II Here.” Playing mainstream music that supports a peaceful planet – they are known for their “Conscious Pop music” that rocks. Here II Here, is an intoxicating group of five experienced entertainers that are driven by their signature rhythmic blend of tribal pop, illuminated rock, and soul-inspired R&B harmonies, They’ll grab you and take you along for the ride with their innovative lyrics, quirky novelties, laughter, and their soaring acapella harmonies. Joining the band for this concert will be local belly dance sensation Holly Luky, of the Gypsy Chicks. Guitarist Anthony Mazzella returns to Old Town Center for the Arts on Saturday, October 2, Get your tickets early, Anthony has sold out his three previous shows at OTCA. Anthony’s music seems to come from some “otherworldly” place. The technical proficiency required to execute his thoughtful and melodic compositions is nothing short of amazing. Anthony is a professional concert guitarist, recording artist and producer, and one of the best guitarists walking this planet today. Sunday, October 10th will be a special matinee performance by world renowned fingerstyle guitarist Laurence Juber. Remember when Paul McCartney started the group “Wings.” Paul selected Laurence, from a long list, to be his lead guitarist. This was an extraordinary, life-changing break for Juber who spent three years recording and touring with the band. After Wings broke up he embarked on a solo career that has brought 14 critically acclaimed solo albums and the reputation as a virtuoso, being voted #1 by Fingerstyle Guitar magazine. Our special ‘Anniversary’ concert on Saturday, October 16th will be performed by the one and only Walt Richardson. Walt was the first to perform at OTCA, and will again bring his brilliant music and infectious, beautiful spirit to Verde Valley. Walt’s original music and sublime covers, like Cat Stevens “Peace Train” has endeared thousands of fans who have followed Walt’s career in Arizona and the U.S. Theresa Robertson has put together a stellar cast of musicians – the La Cubanita Orchestra – for an evening of Cuban, Salsa and Tropical Music on Friday, October 22nd. On Saturday, October 23rd Duo Sonora, Grammy nominated - Native American Music Award winner Gabriel Ayala and five-time Grammy® nominee Will Clipman incorporate classical guitar flavored with flamenco, jazz, tango, and Native American influences and enlivened by the beat of pan-global percussion.
