Chris Spheeris Trio in Concert – Sonic Alchemy

Internationally- acclaimed recording artist Chris Spheeris and his eclectic trio share an evening of soulful, enchanting, inspiring and timeless blend of instrumental and vocal music at the Old Town Center for the Arts, on Friday, December 10th at 7:30 pm. The Chris Spheeris Trio includes the multi- talented Courtney Yeates on Cello and rhythm master Eric Zang on Percussion.

On stage, Chris brings his singer – songwriter gifts to the fore, singing, performing on piano and guitar and accompanied by cellist – vocalist Courtney Yeates and Eric Zang on percussion, oud, ney and vocals.  This pop – folk – ethnic – classical trio serves up a unique fare of intimate, enriching, elegant and light – hearted music, with occasional spoken word pieces of insightful self – satire and witty social commentary.

Chris Spheeris, an Emmy Award winning recording artist has been composing and recording soundtracks to an inspired life for over two decades. His international acclaim has garnered him gold and platinum records and a reputation for heart-opening cinematic soundscapes with signature beautiful melodies and lush production.

Spheeris' music has appeared in TV shows, documentary films, Olympic competitions, Miss Universe pageants, commercials, NPR radio, satellite and syndicated programs, pop songs, and of course, in the sound systems of millions. Inspired by the popular music of The Beatles, Cat Stevens, James Taylor and Joni Mitchell, Chris developed an early style of song writing and guitar playing that was very much his own.  He spent the early years of his musical career as a singer/songwriter and went on to become one of the first "New Age" (as he was then categorized) instrumental artists to be signed to a major label. His signature instrumental recordings, bearing strong influence from his Greek heritage, have earned gold and platinum honors, and a more recent Emmy Award. Chris occasionally tours sharing his vocal songs in intimate venues.

Courtney Yeates is an accomplished cellist whose talent on multiple instruments has made her a sought after studio musician.  Courtney has performed with various ensembles in eight countries. Classically trained, but inclined towards experimentation, she has accompanied musicians from all over the world at venues ranging from intimate coffee houses to internationally televised arena shows with Grammy Award winning artists.   Courtney Yeates earned her degrees in Music and Education from Texas State University where she served as principal cellist for three years and was a four-time recipient of the Anton Bek Memorial Scholarship.  Her master class credits include Yo-Yo Ma, Colin Carr, Marcy Rosen and Pinchas Zukerman.

Eric Zang's background is primarily in Middle Eastern music, with influences from folk to classical styles.  During his many travels abroad he has absorbed an astounding array of musical influences.  Zang will play the ney, a Turkish flute, as well as several Middle Eastern percussion instruments.  His past collaborations include African music with CK Ganyo, Latin music with Ted Solis and flamenco with the group Mosaico.  In Sedona he has recorded with Chris Spheeris and Anthony Mazzella

Don’t miss this memorable evening of communication and plain old fun” that defies comparison.  The past three Chris Spheeris shows at OTCA have sold out, so get your tickets early.
