An Evening with Anthony Mazzella

In Anthony Mazzella’s imaginative world, you are invited to see and experience the visual imagery that is expressed through his otherworldly guitar music in a special concert performance at Old Town Center for the Arts on Saturday, October 2nd at 7:30 PM.

Get your tickets early, Anthony has sold out his three previous shows at OTCA.  Anthony’s music seems to come from some “otherworldly” place.  The technical proficiency required to execute his thoughtful and melodic compositions is nothing short of amazing.  Anthony is one of the best guitarists walking this planet today.

A professional concert guitarist, recording artist and producer, Anthony has appeared on stages all over the world as a solo artist and as guitarist for world music master Omar Faruk Tekbilek. His recent release “Guitar Heaven” has received rave reviews, and he will play music from this album as well as new compositions not yet recorded.

Known as one of the top guitar players in the world, Anthony’s three previous concerts at OTCA were sellouts. Will this concert be the same as the last one? The staff at OTCA caught up with Anthony to find out about his life, philosophy, music and his upcoming concert at Old Town Center for the Arts.

OTCA: what have you been working on lately?

Lately I have been working on tranquility. Tranquility and peace In my personal life, in my music, and in business. Most of my life has been about traveling, to get my music out to people, but now I am more focused on seeing how many I can reach without leaving the comfort of home and the beauty of Sedona and the Verde Valley. I am fortunate to have the fans I do here as well as connecting with the tourists. I have been spending my afternoons educating myself on the plethora of ways to market music via the Internet, with billions of people at your fingertips. Artists of every media have so much power in their court now and the time has come for independent musicians to be masters of their own destiny without having to deal with the difficulty of record company ‘labels.’ The work, beyond the time spent learning to be the musicians we are and getting gigs, is all about being creative at marketing ourselves. That use to mean getting CD's placed in retail establishments that are not music stores. But now the population of the world online are the customers, and your website is the store. How do you close the gap between the two? This is the million-dollar question. The answer is through social networks and advertising. There is so much to learn with this in strategizing a business plan that gains results. Just joining Facebook and posting videos on Youtube is not enough. There needs to be a magnet that attracts people to your art. That is what I am working on. Educating myself on how to best build the magnet that connects music with people in the ever changing landscape of technology.

OTCA: What will you bring that is new for the concert on October 2nd?

The concert will be a reflection of how I spent my summer, sitting by the creek, and letting the wind breeze the notes through my fingertips and into the guitar. I have several new songs as a result and will be performing them for the first time in concert at this show. I feel these songs are no great feat of technical mastery, but more an expression of emotional imagery. It amazes me how vivid the images come to my minds eye when playing these new songs. They are each memories of the past, peace in the now, and flight into the future. Whichever the feeling, I am steeped in the painting of musical colors and alive in the poetry of musical notes.

OTCA: Anything else to share with your fans and those who’ve never heard you before?

I try to give 110% for every performance. I have a lot of love for playing at OTCA. It always attracts a fine audience, and has a great sound and lighting system. I’m looking forward to the magic of the evening that is created by the people who will be there.

Guitar One magazine voted Anthony as "one of the top ten guitarists in the country". A Billboard articles says, "his fingers move like lightning with a precision that will boggle the mind." Anthony’s two handed tapping techniques, mixed with arpeggiated passages, fleet strumming, and single note melody lines create an orchestral fullness that sounds like several guitars playing at once.

Come and witness for your self this guitar phenomenon, who plays world fusion, finger-style, rock, jazz, classical, flamenco, funk, R&B, and more. His new CD will be available, including signing.
