Lost in Holland finds Its Way to Cottonwood

Lost In Holland is a duo of two young musicians named Michael Ronstadt and Josh Hisle, who will appear in concert at the Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood on Sunday, March 7th at 7PM. Yes, Michael is related to Linda Ronstadt, he’s her nephew, and he has played with her in concert. And Neil Young said this of Josh’s music, “I loved Josh’s music from the moment I heard it. He has a depth, and you cannot deny that . . . . . “ Individually, Michael and Josh were having successful careers as musicians. When the two joined together even better things began to happen, including appearances on Nightline, CNN, PBS and Neil Young’s documentary CSNY Déjà vu. But you’ll have to read a bit further to learn more of the story.

Josh Hisle is a lifelong singer/songwriter with several of his songs used commercially and in independent film. When Josh met Neil Young at the shooting of “CSNY: DÉJÀ VU” his career in music began to flourish. After performing at the Sundance Film Festival with Neil Young and Graham Nash, California based Vapor Records released his debut album “Hearts and Minds”.

Following that release he met friend and fellow songwriter Michael G. Ronstadt. Michael, is a veteran songwriter with a Masters Degree in Cello performance, and in addition to his classic chops and composition skills, he is well versed in improvisation. The collaboration between the two has allowed a synergy that has gotten them to the next level, fulfilling a longtime dream that they envisioned. Mike and Josh began their rise together. Finishing their new album “The Last Great Loss” and hitting the road to support it.

Michael Gilbert Ronstadt has been offering his music to audiences on cello, guitar, and voice for fifteen years and is conversant in a wide range of musical styles. He has performed throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada for concerts with artists like David Bromberg, Linda Ronstadt, Murial Anderson, Lisa Biales, The Santa Cruz River Band, Liz Malys, Amber Norgaard, Seedy Seeds, Psychedelphia, Eva Young and Matt Santry. On top of collaborating and performing solo, Michael currently tours internationally with “Lost In Holland” on Vapor Records, presenting their unique acoustic blend of folk and rock to excited audiences everywhere they go.

At 5 years old, Josh Hisle played drums, and guitar at 13. Years later he joined the military and was sent to Iraq, as a squad leader. In Iraq, as the hostility escalated, Hisle turned to his acoustic guitar, writing humorous songs for distraction, a way to deal with the stress. In 2005, Hisle returned home again, but the violent memories surrounded him. When he met Michael, he remarked,“This kid’s got music in the blood. And he’s all about the cause. He’s amazing. He changed everything.”

Named after Hisle’s son, Holland, the duo “Lost in Holland” was born. After performing at several film releases, Lost in Holland was booked for an upcoming California show with Young and ZZ Top. Recently, Neil Young’s label, Vapor Records, announced that they would distribute Lost in Holland’s albums.
