Don Whitcher
Americana Roots Music

Saturday, June 5th , 7:30 PM
$10 advanced, $12 at the door, $10 seniors

Join us for a wonderful Spring concert with Don Whitcher, celebrating Americana Roots Music on Saturday, June 5th, 7:30 PM at the Old Town Center for the Arts.

Don Whitcher’s music takes you on an exciting train-ride to places you can only dream of. A voice like cool clear water; guitar playing that smokes and drives a coal burning rhythm and songwriting that could make an outlaw cry. Don is adept at many facets of Americana music, whether he is evoking the haunting echoes of a Mississippi night on slide or the biting edge of a Texas thunder storm on steel guitar. He paints music like the plaintive cries of old ghosts sweeping down from North Dakota into a Southwestern monsoon.

Don’s music is not easily defined, and he prefers it that way. He is a singer, songwriter who loves blues, old country, bluegrass, swing, folk and jazz. Through his love of music, he has a forged a unique sound and playing style all his own. Don cultivates unique rhythm textures with the deep lyrics of a well traveled drifter. This is true American music.

Singer songwriter and multi instrumentalist Don Whitcher was signed to 95 North Records, and in 2004 charted in the top ten of the Americana and Roots country charts with his band the “Slant 6 Cowboys”. He’s been compared to Greg Brown, Steve Earle, and Johnny Cash all rolled into one, quite a compliment. At 16 years old he packed up an old guitar and drifted across the country, working more odd jobs than he can count, and writing stories he put to song. From god fearing men to sinners and back again; with skills honed to a sharp edge, and songs that will blow the top off a side show stage. This is some great music and definitely well worth seeing.

Last Summer, Don began hosting an open mic night each week at La Bella Café at Old Town Center for the Arts. The open mic nights draws some of the best musicians in the Valley in a low key, no pressure environment. Catering to both professionals and beginners, playing whatever style of music they care to play, or to just listen.

If you have heard Don Whitcher then you know how versatile he is, and if you have not, then you are in for a treat.
