Friday, May 8, 7:30 pm Joe Neri and his rockin’ blues band, Blues Dawg, return to the Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood on Friday, May 8, at 7:30 pm, with their own brand of Chicago-influenced blues. And, once again, local and legendary guitarist, Alan James, will join the band for this very special performance. Blues Dawg is a contemporary electric blues band steeped in the traditions of American blues and roots music. Its repertoire consists of both originals and covers, greatly influenced by the great blues masters – from Muddy Waters and B.B. King to Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton to Paul Butterfield and Peter Green. Fronted by Joe Neri, owner of The Well Red Coyote bookstore in Sedona, the band consists of Neri on guitar and vocals, the extremely talented and versatile David Vincent Mills on keyboard, and one of the best rhythm sections in the whole Verde Valley – Hutch Hutchinson on bass and Ed Tortorello on drums. Alan James is a blues master, widely considered to be one of the best musicians in the Verde Valley. When he’s not fronting his own Alan James Band, he’s composing, recording and teaching. James now makes his home in Cottonwood, but he’s traveled across the country for the past 30 years, playing in venues from Nashville to Chicago to Los Angeles. Blues Dawg was founded by Neri in the mid-90’s in Los Angeles, playing all of the Southern California venues and recording two studio and three live albums. After moving to Sedona in early 2005, he re-formed the band, keeping the same basic sound of covers and original blues.
