Dances of Universal Peace

The Dances of Universal Peace are spiritual practice in motion. Drawing on the sacred phrases, teachings and poetry of many worldwide spiritual traditions, the Dances blend music, singing and movement into a living experience of Unity, Peace, Harmony and Healing. These simple circle dances are all taught as we do them.

Are you ready to sweep across the dance floor with grace and rhythm?
Don't miss this chance to start or expand your dance repertoire or to fall in love with dancing. Learn from a seasoned professional, with over 30 years of teaching partnership dancing, who will guide you through each step and turn.
Meet fellow dance enthusiasts, share experiences, and make new friends. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced dancer, our class is welcome to all levels.
Course Purpose: To learn basic social ballroom dancing, footwork, partnership, lead and follow, as well as dance and social etiquette and much more.
Course content: Basic footwork; lead and follow; the dance floor; music; rhythm and timing; history of the dances; and dance and social etiquette.
Meet Your Instructor:
In 1992 Chandra Tenley completed her ballroom dance certification with Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Richmond, Virginia and then transferred to Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Richmond, Virginia and Raleigh, North Carolina where she was certified in that organization in the foundation and technique levels. After teaching in North Carolina for a number of years, she headed west to Arizona. While attending Yavapai College, she developed and wrote the state standards for accredited curriculum currently being used for the College Ballroom dance classes.

Calling all Musicians & LIVE Music Lovers
Start your First Friday Art Walk at Studio B in Old Town Cottonwood!
Studio B at Old Town Center for the Arts presents First Friday Open Mic Nights hosted by legendary local musician Suzie Schomaker.
Performers may sign up between 4:00 and 5:00 PM prior to the event, with 2 songs per person (approximately 8-10 minutes total) limited to 8 performers.
After the Open Mic concert, players may enjoy participating in a group Jam Session. Attendance is free, with the option to donate to OTCA to help make these events possible for our community.

About the Instructor: Nicola Emerald
(Emerald Forest stage name
Nicola Emerald is a belly dance artist and teacher with Hydrangea Sky Movement Arts, and founder of Dance Elementals training method. With a background that spans athletics, aerial arts, yoga, and fusion belly dance, Nicola blends technique, breath, and other training and dance modalities to cultivate strength, mobility, and creative expression. She believes removing tension from the body, and creating conscious movement pathways are the foundation for wellness and sustainable success. A certified Iyengar yoga teacher since 1999 and professional dancer since 2022, she has trained extensively with Rachel Brice, Tiare Tashnick, and Zoe Jakes, and performs with Hydrangea Sky Movement Arts in Cottonwood. Through Dance Elementals, she offers a comprehensive training program of dance, mobility, and restorative flow that reconnect all levels of movers with balance, vitality, and the sacred intelligence of the body and rhythms of nature. |
