An Evening of Art & Wine
with the Red Earth Theater Company

This specially blended collage of words about wine and life from across cultures and through the ages performed live, travels from the land to the table, across the palette and into the body, mind, spirit and heart.

It is both entertaining and fascinating as it shares not only the art of making wine but also the many experiences it forges and enhances.

From Omar Khayyam, Ernest Hemingway and Homer to Pablo Neruda, Jane Taylor Starwood and the Pope, with Seinfeld, Chris Hitchens and Aimee Bender, come and join the celebration!

The cast includes Giselle Suarez, Linda Damita, Michelle Lambeau, Jeanie Carroll, Candace Copeland, Vismaya Hagelburg, Bob Copeland, Dave Ponzetti, David Perriman, Craig Hartley, Justin Ove, Henry Twombly with Kate Hawkes and Cathy Hartenstein as directors.

Red Earth Theatre has just emerged into the greater Verde Valley community from the concerns and energy of an experienced group of intrepid performing artists from Sedona and Cottonwood. Kate Hawkes has served as the passionate driving force and inspiration behind this new endeavor reigniting the fires of live theater in the Verde Valley.

Originally from Australia, Kate holds degrees in Education and Counseling, and an MFA in Directing from the University of Portland. Long time Adjunct Faculty at Linfield College, McMinville, Oregon, both on the main campus and the Linfield-Good Samaritan Nursing school, Kate taught and directed in the Theatre Department and also developed a new Arts and Wellness Course over her 18 year career there. Kate has directed community theatre, college and professional theatres and has graced Northern AZ with her talents since 2008, teaching at Prescott College as well as directing, acting and producing both in Prescott and Sedona.

Red Earth Theatre Founding members include Ingrid Hagelberg, Jorrit Intveld, Linda Damita, Giselle Suarez, Kate Hawkes and Cathy Hartenstein. This multicultural gang, arriving here from as far away as Australia, Holland and Sweden and also speaking Spanish, French and German, have decades of professional experience between them as theatre artists and educators, in nonprofit management and marketing, writing, producing and directing as well as being professional performers themselves. Individually, they each exhibit a passionate, practical joy in theatre with all its possibilities.

The mission of Red Earth Theatre is to provide a platform to inspire and nurture many voices through live performance, and encourage dialogue exploring the human condition in our diverse communities. Perceiving a need for live theatre, and recognizing the challenges of serving one small community, Red Earth Theatre sees its role as serving all the communities of the Verde Valley.

RET also intends to provide a ‘home’ where theatre artists can develop, improve and express their craft in a fiscally supported environment as well as the opportunity for all to experience both the creation and sharing of story through theatrical means. RET has already begun establishing itself in the community and will be working with West Sedona School providing a bi-lingual afterschool theater program. This is just one of many programs being offered as well as others that range from live theatre, staged readings, workshops/classes and theatre based community projects to special performances for festivals and other such private, corporate or community events.

The wine tasting reception at 6:30 pm, before the play, will feature the engaging and arresting art of Sharron Vincent Porter. Sharron will be present to converse and sign art ‘Cards’ of her work. Though her subject matter is diverse, Porter’s style is recognizably idiosyncratic and sensual. Her first love is the human form – it’s ability to emote and to express ideas about the human condition and the spirit within. Her acrylic textured landscapes, which she likes to call LANDSTRACTS, are inspired by her move to the Southwest.

Red Earth Theatre‘s inaugural production Crushes and Bouquets – The Wine Show is a one-of-a-kind creation for the Sedona Winefest premiering on Saturday, September 28th at 7:30pm. The show will be offered again in Cottonwood on October, Friday 11th at the Old Town Center for The Arts.

Tickets are $10.00 in advance, available at Jerona Café in Cottonwood, Crystal Magic in Sedona and at Weber’s IGA in the Village of Oak Creek or $12 at the door provided that there is availability.

Red Earth Theatre is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and gladly accepts financial and in-kind support as well as actively recruiting hands-on Board Members from Sedona, Cottonwood and Camp Verde to be a vital part of in this exciting new live theatre.
