Singer Amber Norgaard Joins
with Virtuoso Cellist Michael Ronstadt

“Tucson’s own poet, peace-warrior, healer,” singer-songwriter Amber Norgaard will perform with cellist Michael G. Ronstadt at Old Town Center for the Arts on Friday, October 1st, at 7:30 p.m. Described as “a singer/songwriter to be reckoned with” in Tucson Lifestyle Magazine, Norgaard is known for her passionate vocal/piano/guitar delivery and eloquent lyrics that inspire a sense of hope. Musically, she has been depicted as “the love-child of Natalie Merchant, Sarah McLachlan and Melissa Etheridge” with an edge of Americana-roots and soul.

Prior to launching her music career in 2004, Norgaard worked as a registered nurse in southwestern Alaska for six years. During this time, she lived 400 miles off the road system and was immersed within the indigenous population. It was here that she learned to use music as a source of connection to transcend language and cultural barriers. This discovery was what ultimately led her to pursue her passion—using music as healing art to foster compassion and promote positive social change.

In 2007, Norgaard was the runner-up in the California-based Winery Music Awards. That year, she was also voted Tucson’s “Up & Coming Artist of the Year.” As the journey has progressed, she has not disappointed.

Norgaard has released three full-length albums and an acoustic EP. Reviews of her latest release, “Long Way Home” (June 2010), state that the “songs are strong, standing ably on their own as reflections of a relatively young life being well-lived. The title cut offers glimpses into Norgaard’s roots on the Iowa prairie, fusing present and past through a homecoming for a final goodbye…emotions are heartfelt, delivered with a quiet passion and authenticity” (Tucson Weekly).

Norgaard’s performance at the Old Town Center for the Arts features Philadelphia-based Michael G. Ronstadt on cello. Ronstadt is an Arizona-native who received his Master of Music degree in Cello Performance in 2008. The Tucson Citizen describes him as a “performer with an amazing command of the typical and exotic sounds of the cello, a true virtuoso and a man of instinctive musicality.” He has performed throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico with acts such as David Bromberg and Linda Ronstadt.
