The show will open with thrilling live music and dance entertainment by the Arizona Dunun Ensemble, which plays primal, soul-shaking rhythms rooted in West-African tradition. Opening the dance portion of the show will be the Kirmizi Kumlar dancers, the Turkish name for Red Sands, which is a student troupe under the direction of Holly Luky. They have been performing together in various ways for almost two years now and always enjoy stepping onto the stage at the Old Town Center for the Arts in this annual winter showcase. This past summer Red Sands entertained the Flagstaff community at Heritage Square and for the fall season’s Art Walk, so they are excited to bring their dances to the Verde Valley at this time. The first half of the show will be dedicated to their group dances, which range in a variety of styles as well as duets and solos they have choreographed themselves. Joining the show in the second half will be two professional Middle Eastern dance troupes: The Gypsy Chicks from Flagstaff and the Daughters of LiLLith (D.O.L.L.S) from Sedona. The Gypsy Chicks have been delighting audiences throughout Arizona and beyond for over 6 years and have participated in annual events at the OTCA including last year’s Dances Through the Ages show. In this show they will perform some of their newest pieces, which have a unique twist on modern bellydance, but we won’t spoil the surprise! The D.O.L.L.S have recently come together as a fusion bellydance group and quickly gained popularity in the local dance scene, as you may recognize them as the creative entity behind the Friday night Hookah Lounge. Come support this powerful group of performers on Sunday, December 5th for an afternoon of international flavor. It is a rare occasion to have everyone together on one stage and they are excited to share their talents with you! Contact Holly for more information: bodyandmindholly@esedona.net
