Cuban, Salsa, and Tropical Island Grooves
Come to the High Desert

They say that music has the power of taking us places. If you’ve ever wanted to visit Cuba and the Caribbean – here is a concert that you will definitely want to experience. La Cubanita Orchestra will present an exciting evening of high energy Cuban, Salsa, and Tropical music right here in the Verde Valley at the Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood on Friday, October 22 at 7:00 pm.

Singer Theresa Robertson, of ‘Outside the Box’ fame, is the force behind organizing La Cubanita Orchestra that includes some of the best musical talent in Northern Arizona. When asked about forming the group, Theresa revealed this story. “Last spring I began the process of recording Cuban, Salsa and Tropical music with world class L.A.-Cuban musicians, Luis Conte, Carlitos del Puerto and John Beasley for a Latin Music CD to be released in 2011. Through this experience I came to realize a true voice, by connecting again with my Cuban roots. I grew up in a household where Cuban music, especially Celia Cruz and Tito Puente, was constantly playing. Music, food, conversation and dancing is akin to the air that Cubans and Latinos breathe, giving joy and meaning to their lives. As music is the universal language and crosses all borders and boundaries, I wanted to play my part, and give thanks to my parents and the culture from which I was raised.”

Because of this wonderful musical and recording opportunity, and wanting to showcase some of the wonderful musical talent in the area, Theresa was inspired to present a concert with her group Outside The Box. Outside the Box includes Larry Czarnecki on guitar and Michael Robertson on bass. La Cubanita’s Orchestra adds stellar musicians: Porangui and Eric Zang on percussion and vocals, Steve Sandner on piano, Uncle Marc on trombone and William Hoshal on trumpet and sax.

The ‘La Cubanita Orchestra’ concert on Friday, October 22 at OTCA will offer some fabulous Latin music, from Celia Cruz, Albita, La India, The Gypsy Kings, Buena Vista Social Club to name a few, and will have the varied, infectious grooves and rhythms of the island, from Rumba and Merengue, to Bolero’s and Cha Cha Cha’s. “We are so looking forward to playing and performing for all of you, for a night of high energy, fun, dance, and surprises.” Theresa exclaimed.

For all the fans of Theresa and Outside the Box in Sedona, Old Town Center for the Arts is just 15 minutes from West Sedona, via 89A and the Mingus Extension, on to Main, then West a half mile into Old Town. This renovated historic building has been the backdrop for over 120 concerts and events in the past two years. State of the art lighting and sound, along with computer generated virtual set designs; make this vintage venue a one-of-a-kind experience.
