Sunday, April 26th 5 -8 PM Featuring music, local foods, and wonderful local wines to sample. Celebrates Local Symbiosis The blending of water with wine dates back to the classic Greeks. Turned out in their togas, the Greeks would meet at "symposias," gatherings in which they would mull over (read: philosophize) a previously agreed upon subject while eating and drinking wine. In an effort to balance their widely held belief in moderation, with their understand that a little wine could and would bring about a greater clarity of mind and spirit, they found it beneficial to dilute their wine with water. On Sunday, April 26, some enthusiastic folks will hold a symposia of their own, one in which the very subjects will be water and wine -- or more specifically, their symbiotic relationship here in the Verde Valley. Dubbed "Water to Wine," the event will take place at the Old Town Center for the Arts and neighboring MANHEIM Gallery from 5-8 p.m. The evening will feature tastings from several of the Verde Valley wineries, music from William Eaton and Friends and samples of local foods. The Verde Valley Wine Consortium and Sustainable Arizona are sponsoring the symposia/festival. "We want to bring awareness of how the Valley's wine industry is benefiting our efforts to develop sustainable living practices and sustainable economies," says John Neville of Sustainable Arizona. 'When we talk about low water use, it is the perfect thing to be doing with the land. "We will also take a little time to talk about the local food renaissance, the Verde Valley Wine Consortium and Water Awareness Month, of which this is the capping event," says Neville. Costs for the festival is $10 per person and includes five wine tasting tickets. Old town Center for the Arts is located on the corner of Fifth Street and Main in Cottonwood's Old Town. MANHEIM Gallery is at Fourth Street and Main. article by Steve Ayers, Verde Independent Staff Reporter
