Final Show, Saturday, April 4th 7PM A special performance of The MENding Dialogues is returning to the Old Town Center for the Arts in Cottonwood on Saturday, April 4 at 7 pm. A portion of the shows proceeds will benefit a local women’s shelter. Following their sold-out show last February, this event will be an ‘encore’ performance, so get your tickets early. Inspired by The Vagina Monologues, The MENding Dialogues is a smart and passionate inquiry into sex and gender, and violence and healing from different perspectives. Using sketch comedy, poetry, dance and song, the show is a love letter to anyone who has ever been wounded or has wounded another. “Our show evolved,” said Dujardin, Sedona resident and the show’s co-director and producer. “Originally, it was just six men doing monologues on themes raised in The Vagina Monologues. And it was wildly successful. But when we opened it up to female performers as an experiment, a whole new show exploded forth. That’s why this show is called The MENding Dialogues instead of monologues. There’s a lot monologuing these days. Let’s dialogue.” If you’re a fan of The Vagina Monologues, you will not be disappointed with The MENding Dialogues. One might think that a show about sex, violence and healing could turn into something that was heavy-handed, preachy or downright depressing. Yet, the MENding has executed a balanced work—with an appropriate mix of dark, light and comedic pieces —that are stage worthy all by themselves. For a sneak peek, check out TheMENding.org for show clips. The show was first performed in Sedona, AZ. two years ago, and has since toured colleges and communities around the United States to rave reviews. The script of the original show has been produced in several colleges in California and London, England. “When people ask us, “what’s your show about?” I have a hard time telling them,” said Brad Luky, the MENding’s co-director and producer. “It’s about healing. It’s about laughter. It’s about finding the gift in the pain. It’s about great storytelling and dance. Ultimately, it about seeing that the scars you carry actually makes you more human—if you let them.” Co-directed and produced by Derek Dujardin and Brad Luky Assist directed and produced by Tom Puetz and Tyrus Watson Tickets for the MENding Dialogues are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
